White Sale, Black Friday

Thanksgiving Reflections, 30% Off!

written by Blake — November 27, 2007

Thanksgiving around my house is always a turmoil of emotion.  It can really go either way.  We usually have a huge lunch/dinner around 1 o'clock, and then the evening is a crapshoot of epic proportions  Either we will sit in the family room in thick socks in front of a roaring fire, eating s'mores and trimming the tree while laughing at the Burl Ives songs on the radio, or Grandma will guilt-tripsDad until he drinks too much sherry and calls me a homo, and I spend the rest of the evening crying in my room and writing poetry.

We wake up early the next morning and awkward grunted apologies abound if needed, then it's off to the awesome sales of "Black Friday."  If there's anything more exhilirating than finding a light gray cashmere pullover for 80% off, I'd like to hear it!

The day after Thanksgiving is usually my favorite time of the year.  Scouring the clearance racks at Macy's and JC Penny with my mom and sisters in tow, being flabbergasted when I pull back the hangers to reveal that ONE pair of jeans in my size.  Miss Sixty, you saucy minx! Suddenly my evenings spent toiling away at the Bath & Body Works are all worth it.

So that's where you'll find the fam on Black Friday: cruising from mall to mall in the Rav4, sipping mochas and leafing through Lucky Magazine, laughing away without a care in the world.

It's a great feeling when you realize you love your family, even if it only comes once a year.
